Code of Conduct

Library patrons of all ages have a right to expect that the library will be quiet and safe for reading and studying.  The following regulations are authorized by the Local Library Act , Section 4-7, Chapter 81, Illinois Library Law, in effect January 1, 1984.

  1. A patron of any age who is talking loudly enough to disturb other patrons, or engaging in any activity which disturbs or harasses other patrons or staff, or is damaging library materials, technology or facilities will be asked to stop such activity immediately. The library staff reserves the right to ask the patron to leave the premises.
  2. If, following such a request, the patron refuses to comply, or responds to the request in an abusive fashion, the police will be called.
  3. At the discretion of the Library Director, the patron may be required to surrender his/her library card, or may be barred from the library premises for not less than one month, or both.
  4. There will be zero tolerance for abusive or attempted abusive behavior toward another patron or staff.
