The East Dubuque District Library Foundation is excited to report the Capital Campaign results for the Library Expansion and new Community Room. SUCCESS!

Remember, the campaign began quietly with a pledge from CVR, Energy. Next, a family in East Dubuque offered a full-match challenge donation of $400,000. And, the Library was awarded a State of Illinois Library Construction Grant for $433,172. Both the full-match donation and the State funding was realized when the community raised $400,000. Next, thanks to an alert and encouragement from former representative, Sherry Bustos, the Foundation applied and was accepted for HUD grant to assist the project.

Challenges Overcome: Conducting a capital campaign during a COVID crisis and having building costs increase exorbitantly after the plan was designed, did not derail the project. People of this community came through: businesses, trusts, foundations, families, and students. Add to that generosity the funds received from the State of Illinois and the federal government and we now have a top-notch facility.

The EDDLF is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation formed to develop funds to supplement the conventional revenue sources of the East Dubuque District Library. The Foundation holds a 501(c)(3) status.

PURPOSE

The Foundation’s purpose is to support the Library’s mission. The modest Library serves households from East Dubuque to Menominee and has 900 library card holders. The Library is a little treasure with a big impact for our communities. The Foundation works to increase awareness of and financial support for the Library.

Activities

Annual appeal letters are sent to residents of the communities served, local businesses, and corporations with ties to the Library service area.

The Foundation searches for federal, state, and private grants to help fund Library improvements and address needs identified by Library staff.

The Foundation Board participates in community and Library events:

• sponsoring the children’s summer reading program
• assisting the Library staff with activities at community events
• offering refreshments at the Library events
